ARTIST BIO

An award winning Melbourne artist, I love working on my own emerging style. This combines traditional elements learned with tonal realists Lance McNeil and Barbara August, combined with my own love of the paint itself. To do this I like to paint a face real enough to evoke a response from a viewer combined with the strength and interest of texture and unexpected line work and painterly play.

Painting in this way has led to a successful first exhibition in July 2017 at Ryazanoff Gallery in Albert Park, and most recently to a Judges Special Awatd and a Gold Rosette at the 2017 Camberwell Art Show

In 2006 I had broken away from the traditional painting long enjoyed, to something far more exciting and personally rewarding. It began with a newfound appreciation of abstract painting, and a move towards figurative painting with a narrative, using symbolism and colour in a way that imbues the work with meaning and life for me.  The process of painting becomes a journey towards a glimpsed but not fully known destination. It gives me enormous joy to paint in my own emerging style.

I have been fortunate enough to win several awards including Sherbrooke Art Society's 2003 'Streeton Award',  St Kevin's 2008 'Best Modern Painting' and the 2009 McClelland 'Dame Elizabeth Murdoch Prize, and 'Best Contemporary Painting', as well as numerous 'Highly Commendeds.

Over the last year I have held workshops in contemporary portrait painting at both the Oak Hill Gallery in Mornington and Ryazanoff Gallery in Albert Park.

I have also during the last month conducted a painting demonstration at the Whitehorse Art Association.
